Breakfast and Dinner at Alert Bay Lodge, Alert Bay, BC

Welcome to “The Alter” our small restaurant overlooking Johnstone Strait. Once a church, our dining room occupies the elevated platform from where the minster addressed his congregation. Our menus are designed around the seasonal food available, including produce from our garden.

To ensure everyone’s comfort, we ask for proof of double vaccination and to please observe social distancing.


Breakfast is included for lodge guests.  Breakfasts are served with tea, coffee or hot chocolate plus toast and jams.  Choose one of the following options:

  1. Traditional English breakfast – 2 eggs (any style) with bacon, sausage, grilled tomato, beans and toast
  2. Eggs Benedict – a homemade English muffin topped with 2 poached eggs, ham and hollandaise
  3. Steel cuts oats with cinnamon, nuts, fruit and toast
  4. Buttermilk pancakes with fruit and maple syrup

From time to time we will have breakfast specials. Please ask for details at check-in.


From May to October we will be offering dinner with two sittings on Saturday and Sunday. Tables are guaranteed for Lodge guests who confirm 24 hours in advance. Pleases feel free make a reservation by going to the restaurant’s Facebook page by clicking here.

$45.00 per person includes your choice of a starter, main course and dessert; $35.00 for two courses only.  We usually have three choices, including a vegan / vegetarian option.

Sweet potato chowder (vegan, vegetarian)
Minestrone soup with herb pesto
Roasted root vegetable salad (with goat’s cheese) served with baby leaves drizzled with our homemade dressing (request without cheese for vegan option)

Braised beef with creamy mash and roasted carrots
Pan-seared fish of the day on a bed of spinach, served with triple fried chips
Spice-roasted cauliflower steak with braised lentils and cashew cream sauce  (vegan, vegetarian)

Basque-style cheesecake with fruit compote
Butterscotch ‘Milk Bar” pie
Chocolate ganache tart  (vegan)

As our menus are designed around the seasonal food available, final menus will be published a week in advance of your visit.
